Collecting from the airline or the port
In some cases it will be necessary for you to collect your goods directly from the airline or port at your destination. If you choose this option, the airline or shipping line will contact the consignee upon the arrival of your goods. When receiving your goods you may be liable to pay customs duty and taxes upon clearing the goods within the arrival destination.
Prior to being able to collect your goods, you will need to complete the following steps:
Payment of local charges
Declaration to local customs authorities
When goods arrive at any destination outside of the EU after departure from the UK they must be declared to the local customs officials for clearance. The clearance process is usually quite simple and you can complete the formalities yourself at no extra cost.
It is your responsibility to check that your shipment complies with all local import requirements and any applicable restrictions. We have links to many customs authorities on our web site; contact us if your destination is not shown. You will be responsible for any import duty or taxes payable. However, the final decision made by the destination customs officer at the time of importation is totally outside our control.
You will have to arrange collection of your goods from their port of arrival.
Receiving packages at the door
Here at World Cargo International, we provide a fast and effective service, known as the Door-to-Door service. This service enables you to have your goods collected from a designated place of your choice and sent to a specific location at your chosen destination. You, the consignee, will need to re-present the airway bill upon request so that the goods can be released. In some ports, goods will be stored at the destination for a few days free of charge if you are not present at the delivery address. After this free period, rent will be added for each day the goods are left at the receiving centre. This rent charge is usually very high, so we recommend that you ensure that you or your nominated representative can take immediate delivery to avoid a protracted process. If you do incur rent, you will have to pay it in full before the goods will be released to you.
In some countries you can have a friend or relative effect the customs clearance on your behalf, providing they have all the necessary documents. However, we must have notification that another person will be collecting your goods so that we can incorporate it in to your booking. We have links to a number of customs authorities on our website and we recommend that you check the requirements of the destination import process prior to booking your shipment.
